This will assist and remind you, to check your site for any outstanding issues as well as increase (although marginally) your site's popularity.

The more people that set YOUR site as their home page the better.

TO set YOUR web site as your home page;

Internet Explorer
From the "Tools" menu, select "Internet Options".
Click on the "General" tab. 
In the "Home page" section, type "http://www.yoursitename.com/" in the text box. 
Click "OK." 

Netscape 4.0-6.0

From the "Edit" menu, select "Preferences". 
Click on "Navigator." 
In the "Navigator Starts with" section, select "Home page." 
In the "Home page" section, type "http://www.yoursitename.com/" in the text box. 
Click "OK." 

At the very least, include your web site address in your email signature and preferably have your email stationary designed to match your web site design.

There are many sites that will include your web site link for free in their registers and others that will do reciprocal linking, all are worth applying to, as obviously the more sites that link back to your site the better.

Always include your web site on all off line advertising;

This includes business cards, brochures, fliers, newsletters, shop/office entrance and any newspaper or other form of offline advertising.

By submitting your site to many traffic exchanges, your site is viewed numerous times by many different people but you must be prepared to 'surf' to have your site viewed i.e. generally, for each few sites you see your site will be viewed once by other people surfing.

Use search engines and search for your site, once found then select it, then try with your business name.

Then try testing where your site comes up for your favoured search words, once found, then select it.

Done on a regular basis and in conjunction with all other suggestions on this page you should see an improvement in your site's rating within search engines and Alexa (explained below).

Alexa uses some complex processes that actually give your web site a ranking amongst ALL the millions of web sites to be found on the Internet.

Although it only gives substantial detail for sites that rank in the top 100,000 web sites it can be very interesting to see your rank (1 is highest 999,999 etc lowest) change either up or down, obviously if it is slipping your promotions need to be stepped up or repeated.

Always bear in mind that web site promotion is always ongoing, even search engine ranking changes on a weekly basis, so if promotions cease, a web site rank can drop dramatically in a short time.

This is a site that many search engines obtain website information from. As such, it is VERY important that you have your site listed.
